Stainless steel cylinders (the OSO cylinder to be precise) as supplied by Barrett solar are far more efficient at holding the heat within the cylinder for longer than a copper cylinder. Copper is a heat conductor and grabs the heat from the water within heating itself and then leaking out through pipework and thus cooling the water. Typically they lose approx 30 - 35C over a 24 hour period. On contrast, an OSO stainless steel cylinder is not a good conductor of heat and typically will only lose 5 - 6C over the same period.
As well as this the OSO hot water cylinder has eco foam insulation which adds to the retention of heat. If using the OSO solarcyl the heat that you collect from the sun and solar panels during good days of sunshine, the heat will be retained and allow the home user to draw water during grey cloudy unfavourable days that follow.
