INTELLIGENT SOLAR HOME ENERGY MANAGER SYSTEM
The SMA Sunny home manager as supplied by Barrettsolar is a system which is ideal for the situation in Ireland where we have unfavourable "feed in tariffs" from our Electricity suppliers. Self-generated solar electricity sold back to the grid is generally much cheaper than domestic electricity. In most cases the low tariff is only 9 cent when we have to pay Airtricity or ESB 15cent per Kilowatt hour. We need to reduce our increasing Electricity bills by using renewable energy such as Solar (PV) photo voltaic systems to self generate our own power to be used at home rather than buying expensive electricity or selling electricity with an extremely poor tariff set by the ESB here in Ireland .
With the SMA sunny home energy manager system (click for product spec) we use most of our power generated by our solar modules in an intelligent manner and export a minimal ammount . It is not realised in the general public that Ireland receives the same ammount of solar irradiation as in mainland northern europe such as Germany where it is common place to see PV solar modules on houses . They have better feed in tariffs than Ireland does but if we self- generate our own electricity in our homes as much as possible using Solar PV modules, we can reduce our electricity bills. Self generation with minimal grid exporting of solar energy is being promoted alot more now in Germany because of their feed in tariffs are being reduced and therefore incentives decreased.
Part of the solar home manager system can store the power generated in Batteries so we can have electricity at night and in cloudy grey skies. The computer software is designed to intelligently manage self generated solar power during the day and it will monitor the daily output generated, study weather forecasts and PV yield forecasts, suggest recommended actions for load management and can switch on and off household power loads to maximise self generated solar power. If the system cannot produce enough power during unfavourable weather or if battery storage is low, the back up system will allow normal electricity supply from the grid. We will reduce our electricity bill significantly with this intelligent approach.
